Help turn books from
READ to GREEN!
It's Easy, Rewarding, and Fun!
- I want to read a book, where can I get one?
-
Use our aggregated to find places to buy, borrow,
and even find random books for the taking. For the time being, you may still have to visit the individual site where the book is listed, but we
are working hard on the integration. After you read a book, remember you can always re-green it. We are working on adding unique r2g member profiles or importing and aggregating the existing profiles from our partner sites. The books
themselves will have their own unique profiles with a complete history of where they've been,a nd who has read and greened them. Profiles
representing the greenest readers and the greenest books will be showcased.
- Our Mission
- Our mission is to raise the consciousness of the waste and inefficiency as well as the "opportunity" associated with books taht sit
around in people's homes well after they've been read, as well as to promote and encourage active book sharing and greening as a means to
environmental, economic, and social advancement.
- What does it mean to "green" a book?
- There are intrinsic environmental, social, and economic interests in sharing books. When more than one person reads the same book,
they help reduce the demand for resources (like trees for paper and oil for production and shipping), they help generate richer human
relationships, experiences, and opportunities and they spend less money buying books, while generating money for important causes. We hope this
project will galvanize people to list the books they have in their homes in an effort to help the earth, meet and help others, and generate/save
a few dollars for themselves or an important cause such as literacy - all things we consider "green."
- So how do I actually green a book?
- Lend it to someone, donate it, balance it out (by planting a tree) on Eco-Libris, or just check out to get started.
- Why on earth would I want to green a book, and why would I take the time to list it here or on one of the partner sites?
- If you've made it this far, you may already agree with some of the ostensible benefits to getting your books off your bookshelves
and back into circulation. Helping people and saving resources are generally agreed upon as good things, but why not justs give them away and
that's it...? Well, you could... but when you take the time to list the books with the partner sites, or in the aggregator; you have the added
"What's in it for me" benefit of access to more books, a reflecting of your good deeds in your online profile (coming soon), and the perk of
having a residual connection to the books you have relinquished - to help you cope with that separation anxiety. Keep a record of all the books
that have been a part of your life, and track them as they circulate the world impacting others.
- What is the raffle?
- Everyone who balances out a book on Eco-Libris will be entered into a contest to win one of the books listed Here. For every five
books you balance out, you will receive one entry to a random drawing scheduled for September 1st. (However, we reserve the right to
extend the drawing until December 31st.)
